I have painted, power washed, mulched, painted, decluttered, organized, painted, cleaned, staged… have I mentioned painting? And tomorrow is finally the day. This house is officially on the market, and excitement is an understatement.
Between all of that, running a business, and keeping up with life, I’ve still been deep in the trenches of social media strategy. And let me tell you—some of y’all are making things more complicated than they need to be.
If you want your content to actually work for you, here are a few do’s and don’ts that will make a real difference:
DO: Put Captions in the Middle of the Screen
People naturally look at the center first, so that’s where your text should go.
🚫 DON’T: Put captions too high or too low—they’ll either get cut off or ignored.
DO: Use Clear, High-Quality Audio
People will forgive bad video quality, but they’re out if they can’t hear you.
🚫 DON’T: Trust auto-captions to get it right 100% of the time. Always check!
DO: Keep Text Short & Readable
People are scrolling fast—make sure they get your message in seconds.
🚫 DON’T: Dump a novel onto the screen. If they have to stop and read, they won’t.
DO: Show Your Face (When You Can)
People engage more with real humans, not just graphics or stock footage.
🚫 DON’T: Hide behind text-based posts 24/7. Let them connect with you!
DO: Have a Clear Call-to-Action
Tell people exactly what to do next—like, comment, share, or click the link.
🚫 DON’T: Assume they’ll figure it out on their own. They won’t.
If you’ll excuse me, I have one more round of cleaning to do before this house officially hits the market. But in the meantime, go check your last post—are you making any of these mistakes? Fix one today and see what happens!
