If you know me IRL, you know my husband just started a new job out of state, which means I’m solo parenting for the first time in five years. And let me tell you—I miss the days of goldfish, applesauce, and early afternoon naps. Now? I’m an unpaid Uber driver, hauling two teenagers and a tween to their boyfriend’s house, their “long-lost” friend’s house (the one they haven’t seen since 3 PM), and back-to-back sports practices. If you see me on my sixth round trip of the day, send wine.
You know what I really don’t have time for?
A fucking perfectly curated social media feed.
And I get it. You’ve probably spent hours curating the perfect grid, making sure everything fits just right, and squeezing in all the “perfectly edited” posts. And hey, I’m not saying to throw out all the aesthetics or abandon your style completely. But here’s the deal: people are tired of perfection. They want real. They want messy. They want you.
Social media is shifting—finally—and it’s for the better. The pressure to present some flawless, airbrushed version of yourself is out. In comes the real, raw, messy, beautiful side of life. It’s about making connections that go beyond the screen, about being human, and about showing up exactly as you are.
It’s about time, right? I’m ready for it. The social media world is becoming a place where we can actually relax, have fun, and ditch the stress of chasing perfection. We don’t need to make everything polished and curated just to gain engagement. Instead, we can be honest and connect with people in a way that feels authentic—and that’s way less overwhelming.
So, here’s my challenge to you: Stop overcomplicating your content. Show up as you are. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Because guess what? That’s the stuff people will connect with.

Social Media News You Actually Need to Know
Trial Reels Are Here: Instagram’s newest feature lets you post a reel to non-followers first, and you can choose whether or not to push it to your followers later. It’s a great way to test content without pressure, but heads up—it can take up to 24 hours to gain traction, so don’t compare it to your regularly published reels.
DMs Are Where It’s At: Instagram is prioritizing DMs as the main way people connect. If you’re not using auto-replies or sending offers in your followers’ inboxes, you’re probably leaving engagement (and sales) on the table.
The Reels Metrics That Actually Matter (in this order):
- Share rates – If people are sharing your content, Instagram will push it further.
- Watch time – The longer people watch, the better.
- Comment rates – Are they talking back? Engagement = growth.
- Like rates – Nice, but way less important than the others.
