I sat down to write a blog post.
And then my brain said, Absolutely not.
Not because I don’t want to. Not because I don’t have ideas. But because my mind is fried from making decisions all damn day.
Big ones. Small ones. Soul-crushingly annoying ones.
- What should I tackle first on my never-ending to-do list?
- Should I answer that email now or pretend I didn’t see it until tomorrow?
- Do I have time to squeeze in a quick errand? (Spoiler: I do not.)
- And, the daily existential crisis—what’s for dinner? (The question that single-handedly ruins my will to live by 5 p.m.)
And then, when it’s time to do something creative—like writing this very blog post—there’s just… nothing left. My brain has officially blue-screened. It spent all its precious energy deciding whether I should splurge on the good coffee or just suffer through whatever’s already in the cabinet.
What Even Is Decision Fatigue?
Oh, it’s a thing. Decision fatigue happens when your brain gets so overloaded with choices that it starts to glitch. You know that moment when even picking a Netflix show feels like an extreme sport, so you just sit there, paralyzed, watching the preview loop 27 times? Yep. That.
And in social media? Business? Life? It’s real. What to post, when to post, how to make it stand out—it’s enough to make you want to set your laptop on fire and live off the grid.
How to Push Through When Your Brain Has Checked Out
So what do you do when you’re running on empty but still need to get sh*t done?
Lower the stakes. This blog post doesn’t have to be a masterpiece. It just has to exist. (And hey, look! It does.)
Stop making choices for a bit. Eat the same thing for lunch as yesterday. Wear the same comfy sweatshirt. Let someone else decide what’s for dinner. (Seriously, why is that the hardest decision of the day?)
Do the thing—badly. Perfection is a luxury I cannot afford today. And that’s okay.
So if you’re feeling the weight of decision fatigue today, you’re not alone. And if you also have no idea what’s for dinner? Let’s just agree that cereal totally counts.
Now, time to cross “write blog post” off my list. No decision required.
